A man who was stranded in Alaska was saved after activating Apple’s new Emergency SOS satellite function.
An adult male traveling by snow-machine from the remote town of Noorvik to Kotzebue had activated an Emergency SOS via satellite on his iPhone after becoming stranded, as stated by Alaska State Troopers on December 1 at 2 a.m. Wi-Fi and cellular service were not available in the area.
The stranded man’s GPS coordinates were provided by the Apple Emergency Response Center to Troopers and the Northwest Arctic Borough Search and Rescue Coordinator, and four volunteer searchers located and transported him to Kotzebue. There were no reports of harm.
