DIRECTV Satellite switches to streaming during signal loss

How has no one thought of this until now? DIRECTV's newest feature is a game changer for the satellite TV industry.

If your satellite service is interrupted by weather or signal loss, customers are able to continue watching in high definition with their patented SignalSaver™ using your home’s high speed internet connection.

Here's how it works

If you're watching TV and experience signal loss, which anyone who has used satellite for their TV service knows about, you can now continue watching in HD via live stream using your home’s high speed internet service. The on-screen display will remain until you choose to Keep Watching or the satellite signal has been restored.

This feature is free for all DIRECTV customers. But keep this will use data with your current Internet Service Provider.

SignalSaver™ is available

• On internet-connected Genie receivers (HR44, HR54, HS17 models) Learn more about connecting your receiver to the internet
• On 80+ national channels across all markets
• On 4 local channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) in select markets
• During satellite signal loss

To use this feature when displayed:

1. Select Keep Watching.
2. The Loading streaming content screen will display.
3. Channel streaming will begin within seconds and continues until the channel is changed. Your receiver will then attempt to load the program using satellite signal. If signal is still not available, the Keep Watching with Broadband option will display.
